GREYHOUND (2020)

12/14/20 - Greyhound (2020) - 5/10

An incredibly dad movie, crammed to the gills with WWII revelry, seaman’s cacophony, and non-stop dramatic action. There is so much action, that characters and plot are pretty much sunk at the altar of dadfernoon service.

Most films of the like have an opening and “get to know them” period, developing the overarching story and the characters to care for. That is followed by at least a couple of battle scenes and ends in victory, hard fought but meaningful within the context of those valued actioners. This film pretty much abandons the 1st and 3rd parts of this genre’s films, in lieu of just sea action. Why develop characters when they can just do sea stuff?

It looks pretty good, but it is fairly repetitive, empty of empathy for the esteemed, and not the most imaginative in its vision. Serviceable but a bit dull. The relentless grows monotonous, especially since there isn’t a great variance in method or result. The looks and some of the finer technical elements are well executed, but it lacked imagination and engaging passion.
