2/1/23 - 5G: The Reckoning (2023) - 2/10

You know how conspiracy worldviews have a fun air about them conceptually (like 5G poisoning/mind control, new world order, living in the Matrix, etc.) but when you actually explore them and find them to be empty husks full of disorganized shotgun blasts of unconnected thoughts and broken people? Well, that is this film, minus any of the flowery language or emotional weight.

This is a horror film that completely fails at providing any thrill or scare. Its layout, characters, dialogue, and impetus are muddled at best and offensively substandard at worst. There doesn’t seem to be much of a coherent thesis here, let alone detail following plot or believable human concoctions. It is throwing out Covid conspiracy, the rapture/Christian fundamentalism (good or bad, we don’t know), light racism, possible rape, stalking, tech jargon/utilization of a 90s hacker, and internet fearmongering; it’s a smorgasbord of terrible that somehow doesn’t sink its teeth into any of it.

I would be fine if it was dumb or sloppy as long as it was fun. This is dull, disillusioned and damp to the touch. It’s empty scaffolding propping up a digital rotted foundation.

I would rail on particular details that would be spoilery, but who even cares? It is poor, through and through, and deserves not your time nor consideration.
