JIM & ANDY: THE GREAT BEYOND - FEATURING A VERY SPECIAL, CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED MENTION OF TONY CLIFTON (2017)

11/17/17 - Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond - Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton (2017) - 7/10

Absolutely captivating and engrossing behind-the-scenes peek and journey to where all lines blur. It was a truly crazy and wild look into method and meta, as Carey gives himself over to the soul of Andy. Once you start down the path, you can’t wait to see how deep down it goes, and the whole ride is quite the trip.

Though not being the hugest fan of Kaufman or Jim Carey, I was still wrapped up in what was going on and immersed in the strange magic that they both have & brought. This undercover examination of the making of Man on the Moon was so bizarre and so much more interesting than the theatrical release we got. As it delves into the fanatical lengths that acting and their craft can go into, it is hard not to be both respectful of and repulsed by the extraordinary depths it goes. Carey completely loses himself, embodying Kaufman to such a degree that those who knew and loved him felt that he WAS him. It was...disconcerting, but fascinating.

This is a unique documentary that is worth the watch. Amazing, eerie, and always enjoyable.
