THE NIGHTMARE (2015)

August 11, 2015 by Jacob Nelson in 2015, 5, DOCUMENTARY, HORROR, N

8/11/2015 - The Nightmare (2015) - 5/10

An interesting documentary about people's experiences with sleep paralysis. Effective in its evocativeness and bringing these horrors to life. Perhaps it was a bit too invested weaving these experiences into a narrative rather than tackling the subject as a whole, providing no outside analysis from researchers/doctors/psychiatrists or instilling a stronger sense of objectivity. Also, the rare but reoccurring meta elements of the film were interesting and I understand them, but I can't say they worked.
A personal film for the director, but probably a little bit of a step back for the filmmaker (who previously made the bizarre and enticing Room 237). Never the less, creepy when what it is trying works.
