THE INVITATION (2015)

9/15/2016 - The Invitation (2015) - 5+/6-/10

Though it loses some of its well-earned gravitas towards the end when the plot pivots, The Invitation was a rolling boil of emotion and suspense that worked well, for the most part. Some may see it as a bit slow and laborious, I found it to be clever in its depiction of deadening loss, creeping dread, social mistrust, and the emotional toil of someone on the cusp of possible insanity. I was lured in by the situation and the low-key nature of the direction/cinematography to hint at impending doom and anxiety.

Not spectacular, but mostly worth a viewing. Does its job, but it could have used a few tweaks and additions to make it really something.
