THE WAVE (2015)

October 03, 2016 by Jacob Nelson in 2015, 6, ACTION, DRAMA, THRILLER, W, DISASTER

10/3/2016 - The Wave (2015) - 6/10

Predictable (to a point), but well executed, good drama, and realistic effects. One of the better disaster films to come out in a while.

The familial drama and the pretense of the story are "okayish", but there is a consistent darkness to the action that brings realism and uncertainty. The sincerity of the scenes (emotions and what happens) paired with the actuality of the catastrophe raise the stakes. There is no super beefy hero or uber scientist to save these people/town, just ordinary folks trying to mitigate the extreme loss of life.

Also, it takes a couple dark moments that I don't think you would see in a "Hollywood" version. That was surprising and enjoyable.

Again, you know what is coming and it never strays too far off the standard path, but the trip is solid and well done enough.
