A MAN CALLED OVE (2015)

January 12, 2017 by Jacob Nelson in 2015, 6, COMEDY, DRAMA, FOREIGN, M, Oscars 2017

1/12/2017 - A Man Called Ove (En man som heter Ove) (2015/2016) – 6+/10

A standard story of the old grumpus learning to have a heart of gold, but done competently and with a measured emotional dialogue (both positive and negative). Executed with quirk and smirk, offering a chuckle and tear. Very solid, but not spectacular.

There is a somber “Wes Anderson-lite” sentiment to much of the past timeline, emitting a peculiarity and slight whimsy. The story, acting, and composition of the film are all sturdy, but nothing towers above. It is a cute, at times gloomy, unsurprising work that does its job well.
