THE RED TURTLE (2016)

December 29, 2016 by Jacob Nelson in 2016, 7, ANIMATED, FANTASY, FOREIGN, R, Oscars 2017

12/29/2016 - The Red Turtle (La Tortue Rouge) (2016) - 7/10

A marvelous visual poem that oozes beauty, subtle magic, and wonder with each moment. Luscious hues and a ponderous score haunt this wordless tale of life, love and nature. Humble and minimal, accentuating the grandness and unique loneliness of the characters’ surroundings.

It is a parable in the vein of the Crane Wife that utilizes the amazing animated artistry to ensnare your imagination and untether your emotional guard. It is gentle, ethereal, and fleeting, but it excels so well with so little. Really nice film experience.
