WILD ROSE (2018)

12/26/19 - Wild Rose (2019) - 5+/6-/10

This is an easily digestible, sweetly enjoyable, and melodious in its very nature hopeful musician film. Like a country tune itself: simple and fairly rote but still aching and engaging. I appreciate that despite a pretty standardized general plot, it does some things differently and breathes life into hardened lungs.

Buckley damn well shines, with both her naturalistic acting and her voice. The interplay of audience enjoyment despite her unlikable protagonist is even better. Let’s the film sing.

All of that said, the film is unable to scrape passed that decent/average barrier for me. It is a good little film, but I don’t think anything beyond Buckley’s performance truly stands out or rises above. Likeable but pretty plain, uneventful, and unremarkable. I liked it but it isn’t some stand out achievement.
