OF FATHERS AND SONS (2018)

February 28, 2019 by Jacob Nelson in 2018, 5, DOCUMENTARY, FOREIGN, O, Oscars 2019

2/4/19 - Of Fathers and Sons (2018) - 5-/10

Disjointed and slowly developing, but eventually its devastating impact finds purchase. It was a little too vérité, but such is the life that they were capturing, and they kept their point of view and narrative pretty locked on and moving.

I think the lack of engaging story for me was a hindrance. Intellectually, I felt engaged and interested where the overall tale would take us, despite failing to really feel the grip of any one of these characters/people. It was a bit perfunctory. That said, the development of the children and their father’s influence was powerful, but not extraordinary to propel this film into any upper echelon.
