LITTLE WOMEN (2019)

January 03, 2020 by Jacob Nelson in 2019, 7, DRAMA, L, ROMANCE, Oscars 2020

1/1/20 - Little Women (2019) - 7+/10

A delightful and moving telling of the classic tale. My favorite thus far. There is a vibrancy, humor and overall heart that shines beyond their aforementioned brethren. Besides dominating their likenesses, Little Women stands tall among all films. The acting is passionately superb, the costuming is crisp & delectable and the storytelling (through dialogue, setting choices, and direction) is so purely bold and actively life giving. It is a true joy to share the enchanting smiles, the bruising losses, and the beautiful principle.

The acting is a marvel with Pugh crucially catching my eye, Ronan providing the powerfully purposeful backbone, Chalamet flanking with his soft sweet charm, and Watson bringing an unostentatiouis splendor. That isn’t even mentioning the prowess of Dern, Streep and Cooper (what a powerful minor role) who all deliver.

I wonder how the uninitiated I laughed, I kind of cried (welling up counts), and I relished near each moment. I certainly didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, and while it doesn’t reach the height of the stupendous Ladybird, it is still terrific. The timelessness of Little Women stands tall, speaking of then, of now, and of tomorrow.
