BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIE FILM (2020)

November 05, 2020 by Jacob Nelson in 2020, 5, B, COMEDY, Oscars 2021

10/25/20 - Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020) - 5/10

Still entertaining, but the luster and novelty of Borat has diminished over the subsequent years since the original. His knack for poking legitimate fun at the United States is present in spades, but something of the darkness of our current days bit the tongue of hilarity, rather exposing the underbelly of corruption, conspiracy, and cruelty being prodded with each jape. That doesn’t mean there aren’t chuckles, but they are a tad more bittersweet and certainly not as hardy.

It’s amazing that he can still execute these bits and people fall for them. But, he is quite good at hooking the gullible. His daughter, played by Maria Bakalova, was also pretty good. I didn’t find her bits often as entertaining as his, but she has the talent to squeeze the funny out of these uncomfortable candid concoctions.

His access and gaul are astounding, but the film itself is only average. Its a fine and fun fast 95 minutes, but if you happen to not catch it, your life will still have meaning.
