4/6/20 - Villains (2019) - 5+/10

A very solid film that is in no way spectacular, but stays enjoyable and peculiar. Sort of an inverted Funny Games , but its the Scooby gang, Leave it to Beaver meets Psycho; all being twisted and funny. This is pretty playful, in a sick & sociopathic way with a couple twists.

Perhaps horror icons is too bombastic, but Monroe (from It Follows) and Skarsgård

(from just plain IT) joyfully reenter similar territory. Their star-crossed lovers are simple but earnest, and the actors bring that. I appreciate their working together and their shadowing of each other, as actors and story characters. I also loved the character actor work that Sedgwick and Donovan brought; professionals selling it well.

Its brutal, but without sadism and possessing a good heart. There are flourishes of sweet beauty buttressing the bizarre. Overall, some really strong performances across the board. Idiosyncratic but strong. And this is an amusing adventure.
