TITANE (2021)

October 13, 2021 by Jacob Nelson in 2021, 7, DRAMA, FOREIGN, SCIENCE FICTION, THRILLER, T

10/8/21 - Titane (2021) - 7/10

I know we have a “new” Cronenberg (Brandon), so maybe this is just the 1st Ducournau. Scintillating, captivating, mystifying, jaw-dropping, crisp, and bold. Titane, from the director of the spectacular Raw, is a spiraling psycho-automota flesh thriller. Sociopathically gruesome while still being able to shift gears in and out of sexy, horrific, wide-eyed astonishing, and even delicately touching. It’s genre embracing but non-specific, rather focusing on evocation (cinematically dismay, automotively erotic, femininely brazen, dysmorphically disquieting, searing solitudes, and impassioned enterpris).

It defies easy explanation and exploration - setting out to be unique and marvelous in its own twisted and oblique way. Certainly not as tight or slick as Raw but it revels in its insanity and blazes its own trail into an inexplicable immensity. It may not be the most shocking film ever, but it should tick that box for the day.

Fluid and fiery - gender oil emotional aspirating - play with and get burned - volatile - amorphous - engulfing - mercurial - warming - devouring - inspired.
