1/22/21 - Luz: Flower of Evil - 5+/10
Spectacular landscape shots with splendid magical beauty and the sharp undertones of light’s grace. Unfortunately, it is a recommendation solely based on these moments of splendor, with the jumbled cultish familial strife remaining enigmatic to the point of indecipherability. I appreciated the melodic moments and the creeping gloom blotting out the grace. The totality was less a horror ridden folk tale but a dark & obscured religious rural gothic of inexplicability, for better or worse.
I wish I loved it, but it is a cored out apple: robust and succulent on the outside but still hungering despite its consumption. Perhaps its flavor was too subtle for I came away flummoxed.
