PARALLEL MOTHERS (2021)

March 21, 2022 by Jacob Nelson in 2021, 5, DRAMA, FOREIGN, Oscars 2022, P

3/10/22 - Parallel Mothers (2021) - 5/10

Penelope Cruz does wonderfully though I don’t always identify with her choices. That is the script continuing its oddness. The structure of the story was so…eccentric. Often jumping over impactful events and dramatic stakes to land on lulls, which just left me questioning the connections and/or the decisions of the characters & drama. Seemed wonky and off-putting, personally.

I hated the score. Bombastic and works against the mood. Like an out of place telenovela piece. Apparently some loved it, but I just couldn’t get down with it.

Almodovar is a tricky director for me. I always find his films intriguing but so often I am left cold and detached. Meh. Just not for me.
