MAD GOD (2021)

July 02, 2022 by Jacob Nelson in 2021, 7, ANIMATED, FANTASY, HORROR, M

6/21/22 - Mad God (2021) - 7/10

This is less a review and more of a gushing of platitudes:

An alchemical whirlwind of malignant Hensonian doomtripping. Truly magical, with dark radiant beauty. A sorcerer of his craft- like Harryhausen melded with Jodorowsky. The tortured virulence of civilzation and the harshly operatic layers of existence. It’s brilliant, disturbing, captivating, and a truly artistic sensation. Genius let loose from the dark unabated recesses of the imagination.

It's a marvel of stop motion awesomeness and an odyssey of intertwining oblique narratives that highlight an imagination so immense & ominous that it boggles the brain. Tippett brings to crazy-afterlife a conglomeration of cruel oddities and maniacal monstrosities - twisted visions of mankind’s depravity, the crushing millstone of systems, and creeping dreads that linger in the shadows.

I adored what this film did and loved the journey it took me on. A mind’s eye dark fantasy, unparalleled and unrestrained. A thing of apocalyptic artistry. I would love to give some little kid nightmares with this.
