2024 Oscar Nominations for Best Documentary Short Film

My favorite: The Last Repair Shop

Oscar prediction: The Last Repair Shop

The Last Repair Shop (2023) Kris Bowers & Ben Proudfoot - 8/10

A truly poignant and immersive documentary that points at a social good being done while wrapping this wonderful message with multiple touching stories that legitimately grace the heart while also delivering varied fascinating dramatic tales. A truly well crafted and felt film.

Nai Nai & Wài Pó (2023) Sean Wang - 7/10

Fun, funny, and touching as a grandson highlights his grandmothers instilling charisma and love.

The Barber of Little Rock (2022) John Hoffman & Christine Turner - 6/10

Engaging and important highlighter of some intense disparities in this community and the figures pushing to make things better.

The ABCs of Book Banning (2023) Sheila Nevins, Trish Adlesic, Nazenet Habtezghi - 5-/10

Perfectly fine and laudable, but fairly average.

Island in Between (2023) S. Leo Chiang - 4+/5-/10

Could be interesting but lacked imagination or real push to be unique. Felt like it had an engaging shot (an abandoned tank sunken on a beach) and tried to build a movie from it.
