EL CONDE (2023)

September 02, 2024 by Jacob Nelson in 2023, 5, COMEDY, E, FANTASY, FOREIGN, Oscars 2024

3/5/24 - El Conde (2023) - 4+/5-/10

A starkly captivating cinematography spectacle, with some of the best shots of the year being manifested in this gray canvas of wonders. But what it is shooting is simply weird and loses its grip on allegorical satire into squabbling plots and obtuse characters/motivations. It’s a funny premise of “Pinochet was a vampire” but it’s all a bit messy and ragged after that.
