WEAPONS (2025)

Such an intriguing film that I certainly liked but I didn't love. At times a bit too esoteric, but it nailed the out-of-left-field shocks and horrific touches. Part in parcel to the double edged nature was its vignette method, which worked a little crunchier than I had hoped and disturbed both the flow and convictions to the film, while at the same time allowing for some inventive turns and some dramatic highlights that truly let the film howl. It felt fresh and oriented at examining society, though it’s quite debatable just exactly which social ills it felt like jabbing its dreamy floating machine gun at.
All the acting felt admirable and Amy Madigan’s witchy aunt is a creepy addition to the horror pantheon along with the Naruto kid run. Also, have to shout out the “killer kids” ending, which was a helluva tonal shift and allowed for a cathartic audience release that horror films rarely lean so had into.
