THEY CALL ME JEEG (2015)

November 13, 2017 by Jacob Nelson in 2015, 5, ACTION, COMIC BOOK, COMEDY, FOREIGN, T

7/11/17 - They Call Me Jeeg (2015) - 5/10

Idiosyncratic and enjoyable. Down on his luck "real life" super powers flick, but musters only enough for moments of uniqueness and unsustainable quality. The surrounding characters (the disassociated tragic female/love interest and the over-the-top gloryhound villain) are so much more engaging and interesting, which is perfectly fine.

It plays with elements that speak to a deeper & darker psychology behind such “heroes” and this story in general, but nothing feels quite as fleshed out as it should be, nor capitalized upon to the levels they warrant. Incisive and unsavory elements pulsate as an undercurrent, but little is properly made of it.

There is a distinct nugget of individuality and enough going on to keep you interested and sated, but it never raises to any superior level. Perfectly fine and adding to the conversation, but nothing overtly special.
