YAKUZA APOCALYPSE (2015)

10/20/2015 - Yakuza Apocalypse (2015) - 4/10

I am not sure what it was that I was expecting, but it wasn't that. Miike always has ample crazy to go around, and YA was no exception, dripping with nuttiness. There is the English speaking mix of Ghosbuster, Puritan and western protagonist. Or, the chained-up knitting circle of former Yakuza bosses, who are tortured daily. How about the stoic female mob Lt. who has weird white liquid spray out of her ears and plants a "civilian children garden" while using said liquid (and yes, it is exactly what it sounds like). Or how about the multilayered Frog oni/demon/thing, that is a martial arts master and grows to the size of Godzilla - did I mention it is a giant felt frog suit? All of that is without mentioning the Yakuza vampires.

As long as you know what you are getting into with one of Takashi's movies, you will enjoy this. It is not great at all, but this near-hit Miike film is better than your average schlock. Fun but flawed.
