SAUSAGE PARTY (2016)

8/23/2016 - Sausage Party (2016) - 3-/10

Unimpressed by the trailers and concept, I had planned to skip this one. But, the reviews and box office were good. Huh? Maybe I should see this...maybe it is actually doing more than it seems and is good... WRONG! I have no idea what people are loving about this churlish flick. Maybe they are all 12 and/or high because I feel being one of those would have elevated this movie immensely.

Boorish, juvenile, and filled with nothing but 7th-grade jokes. It's all food puns, crude shtick, and unrelenting, shall we say, "racial/cultural insensitivity". I didn't find it groundbreaking or boundary pushing, it was Beavis & Butthead sex cracks.

This all might have been at least serviceable if it was funny. I did not laugh once. So completely misses that mark. Others are talking about its depth. I suppose if you are a grade schooler who has never contemplated the concept of religion or the differences in cultures, this might do something for you. For me: yawn.

I did not care for this film and I will leave you with 2 examples that express this film's ethos. 1. The big baddy of this movie is a literal douche who constantly personifies "douchey" behavior. Isn't that witty and hilarious? 2. The "story" of this film revolves around a hot dog wanting to "be in" a bun. So, in the end, *SPOILER ALERT* not only do they consummate their culinary coitus, but an entire sexual bacchanal ensues with all the food in the whole store that goes on, and on, and on, and on. Tasteless and dumb.
