COBAIN: MONTAGE OF HECK (2015)

July 27, 2015 by Jacob Nelson in 2015, 8, C, DOCUMENTARY

7/27/2015 - Cobain: Montage of Heck (2015) - 8/10

A tremendous and imaginative doc on the life/work of Cobain. Uniquely comprised of much of his personal work (home movies, audio, his art brought to life), it delivers singularly intimate examination on the man and his thoughts. Perhaps a bit too long and a bit too light when it comes details of his work life, this film magnificently spelunks into the development of the young Kurt, his artistic vision, and his dark voyage through the grueling harshness of depression.
It will help to like Nirvana's music, but this film stands robustly on its own, masterfully disseminating a life of music, sadness, and self.
