KILLERS WITHIN (2019)

October 30, 2020 by Jacob Nelson in 2019, 4, CRIME, FOREIGN, HORROR, SCIENCE FICTION, K

10/13/20 - Killers Within (2019) - 4/10

I appreciate the genre twist, action thriller to supernatural action horror, but it doesn’t have much else. It isn’t as fun as a From Dusk Till Dawn or enigmatic as Full Eclipse or Dog Soldiers. It is disjointed and lacking in the key elements that would conjoin and enrich its believable drama. As it stands, it is a premise that is trying not to drown, rather than swimming freely and fully.

Everyone accepts things much too readily and does ridiculous things. Sex with a prisoner? Not watching your hostages? Not absolutely losing your sh*t when you meet reptoids that want to kill you? There is a brief nod to conspiracy theories of the Illuminati, but it doesn’t suffice to smooth over the ample unwarranted concessions.

I found the reptilians bizarre. They are bullet proof except when they aren’t. Super fast and strong, except when they aren't. They were around before humans but worship Baphomet in ceremonies? They eat people but also breed with them? It felt the need to fit in story ideas that looked awesome in the outline, but don’t work when the script comes together.

It is an ok watch that doesn’t thrill or indulge in the ways it could. Some action and a tasty spoonful of the ridiculous, plus its main selling point is the reptillians - I mean that is why we are coming to see this in the first place. But its not a big pool to swim in.
