LUZ (2019)

October 09, 2020 by Jacob Nelson in 2019, 4, FOREIGN, HORROR, L, THRILLER

4/11/20 - Luz (2019) - 4/10

Such a fascinating little film, with its scope being measured, but its stakes life & death. An evocative “retro fantastique”, but with a dour european oppression draped across it all . It lived and died by its own wild rules, story wise and visually; an act that was happy to emulate and emancipate.

So weird and so...german. Striving not to explain itself or function on an easily decipherable path. It can be somewhat difficult to piece together what is happening. The hypnotic surreal multilayered reality was stylish and inventive, but all together straining and unfulfilling.

The players, the purpose, the peroration; its all mysterious and malevolent. But despite its uniqueness and focused nature, it was hard to engage with and onboard, always left questioning what exactly is occurring.
