WRATH OF SILENCE

September 10, 2020 by Jacob Nelson in 2018, 7, ACTION, CRIME, FOREIGN, DRAMA, W

9/6/20 - Wrath of Silence (2018) - 7/10

So atmospheric and subtly directed. Slyly foreboding throughout. Its a tale of loss and pushing through such loss to find answers or meaning, but the forlorn wordlessness and frantic fisticuffs are our elucidations in the darkness. The film is quite beautiful in its quiet expanses and devilishly styled mis en scene. Its action is vital and naturalistic; desperate swings and meaning laced kicks.

There is little by way of hope hear. The villainous make their apostasy with decency and truth explicit, while those below are left eternally wanting. It is depressingly invigorating watching the struggle, the pain, and the expression of necessary violence not come to a satisfying Hollywood resolution. Here, in the scaring of memories, the rape & reaping of the land, and the fury of the fist, meaning and contentment feel like myths; whispered to the poor with a wordless mouth.
