HAMNET (2025)
12/22/25 - Hamnet (2025) - 7+/10
A whimsical and wrenching tale of love, loss, and art. Hamlet is the endpoint but it is is about the writer and the woman of the woods - but just people who encounter joy and injury most severe - propelling those passions across infinity. The tremendous power roiling beneath the surface of something truly timeless and boundless - like the love it shadows forevermore.
Buckley is resplendent. Sure, it’s A LOT of acting, but the crashing waves of skillful expression and impactful material sends out a spray of multitudinous wonder and searing heart massages to spray across our upturned faces. She is amazing and worthy of praise. Oh, and Mescal is great too…haha.
This was a touching and beautiful film, and one need not be a parent to be moved to tears against the weight of filmmakers’ works and endeavors.
