SULLY (2016)
12/2/2016 - Sully (2016) - 5-/10
Uninspiring and somewhat boring. Sure, you knew how it was going to end, but I wasn't instilled with a sense of wonder or beguilment. It was a by-the-numbers, executed well, biographical log. I was informed, but not in an inspirational, enigmatic, or enlightening way. Much like the simulations that pop up in this film, it felt algorithmic when it should have felt human.
Hanks has a solid subdued performance, but the subtly and even handedness makes for uninspiring viewing. The film is just there and other than the innate 9/11 paranoia moments or the "gotcha" trial pseudo-twist, this is a stagnant incident procedural - all meat and no sizzle.
Like a dull Shame, with an old and “I’m just fine” pilot instead of an imploding sexaholic.
