SHIELD OF STRAW (2013)

October 01, 2015 by Jacob Nelson in 2013, 5, ACTION, FOREIGN, S, THRILLER

10/1/2015 - Shield of Straw (2013)- 5-/10

If there was ever a film that I would blaspheme and say "Hollywood should make an English remake of" it would be this one. Similar to "16 Blocks", but on a mixture of steroids, trucker speed and some mellow mxe. Plot: rich guy puts a huge bounty on the head of the alleged killer of his granddaughter>cops have to try and keep him alive and get to the police station far away>everyone is trying to get the bounty and there appears to be a rat in the squad>action & intrigue.

The plot is full of potential, but Miike, a director that can do some wonderful things, just kind of lets it languish. The first bit is really interesting, but instead of turning the screws, it felt like he got bored. There are still some good twists, but at the end, it was lacking.
It isn't a bad film. Only about average/slightly below. Competently made, but he can do so much better.

I think this could be an awesome movie. Hopefully it will get remade (wow, did I really just say that? I disgust myself...)
