ST. AGATHA (2018)

October 28, 2019 by Jacob Nelson in 2018, 4, HORROR, S, THRILLER

9/23/19 - St. Agatha (2018) - 4/10

My downward spiral into a nunsploitation-lite viewing party continues, with even less enticing results. St. Agatha opens up well, beginning en media res strongly and the story thrust is interesting, but it loses gas real fast. Well, I suppose it it might retain it if you are looking for the lightest of gore torture-sofctore. I was hoping for more.

There is no mystery, no intrigue; it just becomes an “escape the misery” after the first act and it fails to deliver credible opportunities. Drama comes from the lift up and then the cut down. Here instead, we just get an improperly weighted slow descent down a snowy hill of discomfort and disengagement.

There just wasn’t much with this film to rise above mediocre. There were hints of character or intensity, in action and in plot, but those were starved and snuffed out. Felt like a bit of waste, when I think the actresses could have done more with a deeper tale.
