2022 has come, so now is the time to present my summation of the cinematic year. This is a presentation of my favorites and those that landed on the other end of the spectrum for the year, but if a film was up for an Academy Award then it is barred from my list.
I saw 279 films (1st time seeing them) in 2021. 191 of those were feature length films that came out in the past 18 months).
This isn’t a complete list and might change a bit, if I have the gumption, because I have never seen enough films
Movies that didn’t work for me but everyone else loved:
Spider-Man: No Way Home - It certainly threw a lot at the audience, but not much of it landed with me.
King Richard- I don’t get best picture talk at all. Maybe my HBO feed had a different film.
Belfast - A good little film, but certainly not amazing.
Blindspots of the Year -
The Devils (1973) - 7/10 - A beautiful and disturbing sexually charged but heretical experience. A precarious peak of nunsploitation.
Imposter (2018) - You want a wild documentary that leaves you questioning at every turn? Check this one out.
This isn’t my job, I don’t get paid for this, and I live in the middle of America, so I missed a bunch of films that I want to see/haven’t gotten to them yet. Need to and hopefully I will see them in the future... : Licorice Pizza, Flee, The Worst Person in the World, Lamb, Drive My Car, Spencer, Cyrano, A Hero, The Tragedy of MacBeth, West Side Story, among many many others…
